Health Science Foundations and Health Science Anatomy & Physiology
All Medical Academy students must complete the Health Science Core. Students who complete the Health Science Core at the secondary level do not need to complete the core at post-secondary institutions such as Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology.
Health Science Foundations (9th or 10th grade)
Health Science Foundations covers many topics that all health care professionals use on a daily basis. Students will gain an understanding of health care delivery systems, health care careers, medical ethics, job skills in health care, infection control, CPR and first aid. The study of medical terminology begins in this course and continues throughout the program. At GCHS, students take Health Science Foundations as the first course in their four-course program.
Health Science Anatomy and Physiology (10th or 11th grade)
Health Science Anatomy & Physiology is a course limited to Medical Academy students. Students will understand the structure and function of the human body systems and learn about careers related to those body systems. Students will also gain an understanding of wellness and disease concepts. The course includes laboratories, including animal dissection. At GCHS, students take this course as the second course in their four-course program.
